Indo-American joint coast guard exercise

The Indian coast guard and the American coast guard are jointly organizing military exercises on Feb.20, 2009.For this purpose, the American ship Cutter Boutwell from homeport Alameda in California, has arrived at the port city. Its Indian counterpart Sankalp which is berthed in Goa right now will be arriving in Kochi today to start the combined military exercises.The commanding officer of Boutwell is Captain Kevin J Cavanaugh.Courtesy visits and friendly competitions have been planned between the crew members of the two maritime agencies.The American ship carrying a crew of about 200 members including women, is chiefly deployed for law enforcement and rescue operations in the US.The visit is said to have opened up a new vista of maritime cooperation between the two leading coast guards of the world.
