First cruise vessel lands at Kochi

Japanese Peace Boat on a mission at Kochi

‘Peace Boat’ will call at Kochi on October 10.This is the boat’s 59th global voyage. During this trip, the vessel will travel 109 days around the world. The vessel left Yokohama, , on September 23. She will return to on January 10 next year.

 

Peace Boat will be passing through the Suez Canal and Panama Canal , and visit places such as , , and among 21 ports, according to those associated with the ship.

 

During the visit to Kochi , the vessel will be berthed at Q6 berth. The civic administrators led by Kochi Mayor Mercy Williams will pay a visit to the ship.Peace Boat is a Japan-based non-governmental and non-profit organisation committed to promote peace, human rights, equal and sustainable development and respect for the environment, according to the website of the vessel.

 

Purpose
“Peace Boat aims at creating awareness and action based on effecting positive social and political change in the world. We pursue this through the organisation of global educational programmes, responsible travel, cooperative projects and advocacy activities. These activities are carried out on a partnership basis with other civil society organisations and communities,” in
, North-East Asia , and around the world,” according to the website.

 

“Those at the ship have expressed their willingness to network with city mayors as part of the peace initiative. They have invited the women councillors of Kochi Corporation to visit the vessel,” said Ms. Williams.

 

Reportedly,the vessel will leave Kochi on October 10 evening.
