Passenger ship lands at Lakshadweep
For the first time,a passenger ship named Bharatseema landed at the newly built jetty at Minicoy Islands of Lakshadweep on Oct.27,2008 and loaded and unloaded the passengers.So far, the arrangement had been to berth the ships at the outer bay and to ferry the passengers inland.The people were finding it difficult to get aboard the boats in the monsoon and it caused inconveniences to children and the elderly.The jetty was finally constructed as per public demand and MP fund was used for this purpose.More of such jetties are being planned in the remaining islands including Kavaratty.
